Substantial Damage Estimator (SDE) Tool Workshop

Co-Sponsored by FEMA and NJAFM

How the Substantial Damage Estimator (SDE) Tool Can Benefit Your Community

The SDE 2.0 Tool was developed by FEMA to assist State & local officials in determining substantial damage for residential & non-residential structures.  FEMA’s SDE software offers a formalized approach to develop reasonable estimates of building values and reasonable estimates of the cost to repair or reconstruct buildings.  The SDE enables local officials to calculate a reasonable and defensible estimate of whether a building has been substantially damaged.  Local officials use the software to provide timely substantial damage determinations so that reconstruction can begin quickly following a disaster.

This 6 hour course, demonstrates using the SDE Tool to make the field assessment on the structure, enter data into the software, produce and review data reports, manage appeals, and maintain a consistent approach in making determinations.

No computer is needed for the SDE training. Attendees are welcome to bring one if they have specific questions or would feel more comfortable following along on their laptop. Unfortunately, the SDE Tool does not work on a Mac.
